Drying and Pelletising Brochure Ver 4
Digestate can be dried sufficiently to make a pellet. The pellet can be enhanced with other nutrients if required.
If the biogas plant has a CHP with heat available for drying, then the pellets can be made but the initial digestate and dewatering step must be made by membrane technology This is because the membrane will provide significant dewatering of the digestate without using any thermal energy. The available thermal energy from the CHP can be reserved for the final drying step before pelletising.
Pelletising the digestate provides a product that retains all of the original nutrients and biomass. The palletised product is easy to store and reduces further handling costs in terms off spreading. Also, no liquid storage is needed.
Drying of dewatered slurry will need an additional heat source to reduce the concentrate to 10% moisture content before pelletising
